Andy is one of the few teachers in the UK offering both conventional Alexander Technique lessons and running coaching for all abilities.
Working in Tonbridge and London, he provides tailored lessons to help improve chronic pain, reduce muscular tension and bring greater ease to the way you move, whatever activities you enjoy.
A BIT ABOUT ME
ANDY SMITH: ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE TEACHER AND RUNNING COACH
I'll begin with a confession - I never used to enjoy running.
When I was younger I played every sport under the sun but would much rather hit, kick or throw a ball than go for a jog. But after having a serious back problem in my mid-20s which meant I had to give up sport, I found the Alexander Technique - and that changed everything. Not only did it have a big impact on my health by improving my body awareness and balance, it has also reduced a lot of muscular tension and pain, and encouraged me to appreciate exactly what effort is needed to undertake any activity. This in turn has given me a true enjoyment in exploring free movement, something that brings significant benefits to my sport, daily life with my family and working with my clients. Over the years my job as an Alexander teacher has enabled me to work with a huge variety of people, from musicians and actors to office workers, sportspeople and those suffering from chronic pain, and seeing them achieve things that they didn't think they could do is something I never tire of experiencing.

I have undergone a rigorous three-year training and am a certified member of the Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (STAT). I have also completed 'Art of Running' instructor training and have advanced DBS certification.
